Kirinyaga University recently held a colorful and vibrant Cultural Week led by the Vice-Chancellor, Mary Ndung'u. The event brought together students, staff, and invited guests in a celebration of cultural diversity, unity, and heritage, reinforcing the University’s commitment to holistic education and national cohesion. The festival was also graced by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academic, Research, and Student Affairs (ARSA), Prof. Charles O. A. Omwandho, and the Dean of Students, Rev. Allan Maina, whose office played a pivotal role in coordinating student participation and ensuring smooth execution of the event.

Kirinyaga University dazzles in Chess, Darts, Floorball, Pool, and Athletics at South Eastern Kenya University from 31st Jan – 1st Feb 2026, showcasing skill and determination. Both Men’s and Women’s Chess teams finished 2nd overall, qualifying for the KUSF National Championships. The Women’s Floorball team finished 2nd and the Men’s 3rd, earning spots at the KUSF National Championships. Despite challenging matches, the Darts and Pool teams gained valuable exposure to strengthen skills and competitive confidence.

Kyu Triumphs, at KUSF Central League 2D Games, showcased talent and team efficiency during Basketball, Soccer, Netball, Karate, and Taekwondo at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology February 14–15 2026.

Kyu Triumphs, at KUSF Central League 2D Games, showcased talent and team efficiency during Basketball, Soccer, Netball, Karate, and Taekwondo at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology February 14–15 2026.
Our Basketball Men finished 6th/9, Soccer Men 8th/8, and Netball Women 6th/9, while Karate and Taekwondo athletes gained important technical and tactical skills at a joint training camp in preparation for the National Games. Good performances by the Basketball and Netball teams were a result of dedicated coaching.
2C GAMES
Kirinyaga University shines at KUSF Central Conference League 2C Games held at Chuka University from 7th to 8th February 2026, competing in Rollball (Women), Rugby 7s (Men), Badminton (Women), Tennis (Women), and Scrabble (Men & Women).
Kirinyaga University’s Women’s Tennis team made a remarkable comeback, winning all second-leg matches to finish 2nd out of 10 teams and secure national qualification, while the Men’s and Women’s Scrabble teams continued their dominance by finishing 2nd overall, marking four consecutive years of national qualification. The Rollball Women’s team demonstrated impressive improvement, finishing number 3 of 7 teams. Their enhanced tactical execution and competitive spirit, signals strong potential for greater achievements. The Badminton Women’s team finished 8th overall, gaining valuable competitive experience and highlighting the need for more intensive training to strengthen future performance. The Rugby 7s Men’s team finished 9th, highlighting the need for more intensive training, improved conditioning, and more competitive exposure, with a dedicated fitness facility key to better performance and injury prevention.
On behalf of the entire KyU fraternity, the office of Deputy Vice Chancellor, ARSA and that of the Vice Chancellor congratulate all teams for this commendable performance at the KUSA Central games.
Kirinyaga University participated in the Scrabble Kenya National Tournament held on March 7 - 8, 2026 at Stanley Haven, Murang’a, showcasing talent, resilience and competitive excellence. Both men’s and women’s teams represented the University, demonstrating strong performance, strategic thinking and adaptability against top-level national competitors.
The tournament provided a valuable platform for players to gain national exposure, interact with experienced and corporate players, and earn official Scrabble ratings. The event also served as a key networking opportunity, connecting Kirinyaga University players with members of the wider Scrabble community across the country. Ann Waweru delivered an outstanding performance, securing 3rd place nationally in the Open Category, showcasing excellence and competitive strength. Most players moved from Division C to Intermediate Division B, showing improved skills, while the tournament boosted competitiveness, raised play standards and offered valuable national exposure. The Sports Department commends all players for their dedication and discipline.
