The Department of State invites applications for its call on safeguarding against vulnerabilities for women and for children in the Near Eastern Affairs region. US and foreign-based non-profit organisations, NGOs, public international organisations, institutions of higher education, as well as for-profit organisations and businesses, may apply. The Code for Africa invites applications for its impactAFRICA programme. Teams of journalists or news innovators from all across the world may apply. All projects should include members from their target country of Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania or Zambia. Academic research projects must demonstrate a media partnership to publish the research in journalistic format that adheres to the innovative storytelling guidelines and is innovative and designed to reach a large audience in one of the eligible countries. The total budget is US$500,000. The 10 finalists will receive production grants to enable them to produce their stories along with technology supports, journalistic mentoring and support on issues ranging from audience strategies to syndication of the content.
