Australia-Africa Universities Network Partnership and Research Development Fund (AAUN PRDF) grant

Emeritus Professor Tim Roberts, University of Newcastle, Australia,  Professor Madara Ogot, University of Nairobi and Professor Charles Omwandho, Kirinyaga University, Kenya, have won Australia-Africa Universities Network Partnership and Research Development Fund (AAUN PRDF) grant worth $10,000 AUD under the project name "Transitioning to a sustainable future through STEM training and research". This award is one of ten awarded from 58 applications.

The AAUN PRDF Program is an annual competitive seed funding that builds teams to address mutual Australian African research challenges in environment, food and nutrition security, or in related aspects of higher education and economic development.

The objective of the project is to bring together the Australian and African universities to form collaborative networks in the area of sustainability and transitioning in the face of climate change in relation to environment, food and nutrition security.

The award is seed money to enable the two Kenyan professors together with the Australian counterparts to develop the project proposal in the thematic areas later in the year.

The Office of the Vice Chancellor joins the entire KyU fraternity in congratulating Prof. Omwandho for this great achievement.

A KyU graduate of Mathematics & Computer Science Mr. Emmanuel Wanyonyi has been recruited by KENET

A Kirinyaga University graduate of Mathematics and Computer Science Mr. Emmanuel Wanyonyi (graduating class of 2017) has been recruited by Kenya Education Network Trust (KENET) among the top four graduate trainees in Engineering and Application Development from a pool of 873 applicants.

Mr. Wanyonyi together with only one other top Computer Science graduate, both being proficient programmers were selected   from among 338 applicants from 38 Kenyan Universities that offer degree programs in ICT.

The two will join the research and education sciences team that develops advanced cloud-based appliances for researchers and doctoral students in current appliances including R-studio for statistical analysis, visualization and Jupyter Notebook.

The announcement made by Prof.  Meoli Kashorda, the CEO of KENET on Monday June 24, 2019 has affirmed Kirinyaga University’s strategic contribution to human resource development through University education in Kenya.

Kirinyaga University joins all in congratulating the top four graduate engineers including  our own Emmanuel Wanyonyi for the exceptional display of intellect; Congratulations KyU.
