DR. SAMUEL MBURU WANJIKU (DEAN, SCHOOL OF HEALTH SCIENCES) GETS INVITATION TO THE INTERNATIONAL SUMMIT IN HUMAN GENETIC AND GENOMICS FROM AUGUST 27 TO SEPTEMBER 30, 2018 AT THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF HEALTH (NIH), BETHESDA, MARYLAND, USA

Kirinyaga University is delighted to announce that Dr. Samuel Mburu, Dean School of Health Sciences has been invited to attend and participate in the NIH – international Summit for Genomics and Genetics Research (ISGGR) from August 27 to September 30, 2018 at the National institute of Health (NIH), Bethesda, Maryland, United States of America.

The Summit is organized by the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), credited with the development of a reference sequence for the human genome.

This Summit is for healthcare professional from low to middle income countries who are interested in advancing genetics and genomics in research and medicine to resolve health challenges. KyU takes pride in the observation that not only will Dr. Mburu be representing Kirinyaga University but also Kenya as a country.

The office of the Vice Chancellor and that of the Deputy Vice Chancellor ASA congratulate on behalf of the entire KyU fraternity, Dr. Mburu on this great achievement and wish him well as he networks and consults with established researchers in the United States of America.

TABITHA JERONO KyU ALLUMNUS DOES IT; GETS A SCHOLARSHIP TO STUDY MASTER OF SCIENCE IN MATHEMATICS AT THE YOUNGSTOWN STATE UNIVERSITY, OHIO.

Kirinyaga University is delighted to announce that Tabitha Jerono a KyU 2016 Pioneer graduate has won a scholarship to study Master of Science in Mathematics at Youngstown State University, Ohio United States of America.

KyU takes pride in its observation that Ms Jerono is the first Kenyan to be admitted to pursue mathematics in Youngstown State University, Ohio USA.  Ms Jerono leaves on August 2, 2018 to commence her studies in the United States of America.

The office of the Vice Chancellor and that of the Deputy Vice Chancellor ASA congratulate on behalf of the entire KyU fraternity, Ms Tabitha Jerono on this great achievement and wish her well in her studies and also in her endeavour to be a good ambassador of Kirinyaga University in the United States of America.

PROF. MARY NDUNG’U - KyU VICE CHANCELLOR HITS 1500 CITATIONS THRESHOLD AT “RESEARCHGATE”

Prof. Mary Ndung’u, the Vice Chancellor, KyU has for the fourth time been recognized by ‘Research gate’, a global network of scientists that share research concepts and outcomes on a peer review platform, through discussions, citations and collaborations.  The group highlights achievements of and commends researchers whose findings generate sizeable interest and citations by peers working in related disciplines.  Professor Ndung’u’s articles on the” peer review spotlight” have now reached a 1,500 citations’ threshold; a significant achievement in deed. 

The Deputy Vice Chancellor and the entire KyU family congratulate Professor Ndung’u for this Progressive and outstanding achievement.

Elly Munde of School of Health Sciences wins Fogarty International Fellowship

Mr. ElIy Munde, a Tutorial Fellow at the School of Health Sciences has been awarded a Fogatry Fellowship by the Fogarty International Centre at the National Institute of Health, USA.  Mr. Munde will spend his fellowship year at Kenya Medical Research Institute Centre for Global Health Research in Kisumu City under the mentorship of Prof. Douglas J. Perkins of Columbia University and Prof. Collins Ouma of Maseno University.  This opportunity will further understanding of host immune-genetics in infectious diseases.  His research will focus on the role of microRNA (mir)-186 and hypoxia inducible factor (HIF)-1A in conditioning P. falciparum-induced severe malarial anemia in Siaya County, western Kenyan children.  This training provides mentored research opportunities to train and prepare a new cadre of health professionals in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) dedicated to research, health services, and academic careers.  This training is funded by the Fogarty International Training Centre for the period July 2018-June 2019.  His research will help explain the immune modulatory mechanism of mir-186 on infection by P. falciparum malaria in immune-naïve children.
