On behalf of the School of Computing and Information Technology (SCIT), I take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to you as you visit us at our home in Cyberspace. SCIT through its vibrant academic programmes produce holistic and competitive Information Communication Technology graduates to meet the demands of the dynamic ICT industry.

Besides teaching, our faculty engage in research activities as well as community outreach. The administrative staff and computer technicians provide support that makes the teaching/learning experience exciting.

The School has state of art facilities for curriculum implementation. The well-equipped computer laboratories make teaching and learning experience practical-oriented and Internet connectivity enable access to Information resources beyond the University.

The School collaborates with CISCO Systems, a Networking Academy is an IT skills and career building program for learning institutions and individuals worldwide.

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Introduction:

The need for Information Communication Technology knowledge and skills has become a key ingredient in all sectors of the economy. Bachelor of Science in information technology  is structured to instill appropriate knowledge of better understanding of computer hardware, software and the emerging trends in the ICT sector.

Entry Requirements:

Stage 1: Must have an aggregate grade of C+(plus) in KCSE (or equivalent examination) and a minimum grade of C in Mathematics and English.

Stage II: Diploma in Management and Information Technology or Diploma in Information Technology with credit or any other qualification recognized by the University senate.

Duration:

3 Years full time or part time (evening & weekends)

DIPLOMA IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Introduction:

The Diploma course in Information Technology is intended to provide students with computing and technological skills required by industry at the Diploma level.

Entry Requirements:

An aggregate grade of C (plain) in KCSE
A grade of C (plain) in Mathematics and English and credit pass in IT certificate or an equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by the University Board.

Duration:

1 ½ year full time or part time (evening & weekends)

DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Introduction:

Diploma in Business Information Technology provides an academic program that leverages on a unique learning opportunity in the combined disciplines of business and information technology. The courses in the program have been selected to give broad coverage of the functional areas of information technology. The program has also been designed to meet the needs of organizations in terms of technological advancements.

PROFICIENY CERTIFICATE IN COMPUTER APPLICATION

Introduction:

Proficiency in Computer Applications is a short course which aim is to equip the trainee with knowledge and practical skills to perform practical tasks using relevant computer applications. Each package is complete in itself and a trainee has the option to register one or more computer packages as per needs.

Entry Requirements:

A minimum of KCSE certificate or its equivalent as may be approved by the School of Computing and Information Technology

Duration:

4 weeks full time or part time (evening & weekends)

PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATE IN INFORMATION SYSTEMS

Introduction:

Professional certificate in information systems is a short course whose aim is to equip the trainee with knowledge and skills to perform various tasks using relevant computer technologies. The course is designed to provide the trainee with skills that are relevant to the dynamic job market in both public and private sector.

Entry Requirements:

Be a holder of KCSE/KACE/KCE certificate

Duration:

72 hours on full time or part time (evening & weekends)

CISCO SHORT COURSES

1. IT Essentials covers fundamental computer and career skills for entry-level IT jobs. The IT Essentials curriculum includes hands-on labs that provide practical experience. Virtual tools help you hone your troubleshooting skills and practice what you learn.

Career opportunities:

IT/technical support, field service technician, help desk technician, network support technician. 2. Introduction to the Internet of Everything (IoE) provides an overview of the concepts and challenges of the IoE economy. The course discusses the Internet and its evolution to the interconnection of people, processes, data, and things that forms the Internet of Everything.

Career opportunities:

Collaboration engineer, data center technician, network engineer, software engineer. 3. Introduction to Cyber security course covers the importance of cybersecurity, the most common risks, and how to mitigate them.

Career opportunities:

Applicable to any professionals responsible for security and privacy of company or customer systems. 4. The Entrepreneurship course uses interactive, online case studies to help you develop business and financial skills and to start a business using your networking technology skills.

Internet café owner, solution provider, systems integrator, network services, app developer and more. 5. Get Connected introduces you to basic computer and Internet navigation skills.
